Ancient Chinese Food – Rice, Tea, Millet and Wine.

When you think of Chinesefood you think of rice right? Rice was the first grain that was farmed in China.  There is archaeological evidence of rice farming going back to 5000 BC along the Yangtse River which is the longest river in Asia and the third longest in the world.  Just as we boil rice today all those many years ago they did the same or they made it into wine.  Rice Wine has been extremely popular in China since prehistory.  Rice wine is an alcoholic beverage made from rice.  Rice wine is nothing like ordinary wine which is made from sweet grapes and other fruit.

Rice doesn't grow in northern China because the climate there is much drier and colder so therefore people in northern China gathered wild Millet which is a grain that grows wild, looks a lot like corn when growing but grows faster and doesn't need much rain so it's a good crop for dry and cold climates.  The people of China boiled the Millet and made it into a kind of porridge.

Another food people relate to china is Tea.  Tea is grown wild in china going back to at least 3000 BC but possibly earlier.  The people of China came across this and began drinking it straight away and still do till this day.

After time and once people could afford more food the people of China began to buy or grow vegetables to put into their rice.  On special occasions meat was added to their dishes such as Chicken, Pork or Lamb etc.  By 4000 BC they were eating Pork which is inhabitant to china.  Sheep and cattle were not native but reached China from West Asia around 4000BC too.  With meat being so expensive and because Buddhist’s were vegetarians people began to add Tofu and Bean Curd into their food so that they could have a source of protein in their diets.

With China not having big forests it was very hard to find fuel and wood to cook with so therefore Chinese people learned to cut up their food into very small pieces in order for it to cook quickly and thoroughly on a very small fire.

So there it is the ancient Chinese food history.  All this talk about food has definitely made my belly hungry and probably yours too so why not order some delicious Chinese food from www.myhungrybelly.com and choose from a list of Chinese takeaways such as Hygiene China, Mayflower or Spring Bamboo and have it delivered straight to your door.

The History of Curry

The History of Curry

The history of curry goes back a very long way although there is evidence of it being used in 1700BC.  Even though curries originated from South Asian countries it has been known to have been used in England as early as the 1300’s and probably earlier.  It was mentioned in the first book written on English cooking during the time of Richard II in the late 1300’s.

Curries are eaten worldwide today and are a very popular dish in the UK.  On average 1 in 5 people within the UK eat curries so that is pretty much a lot if you think about the population of the United Kingdom especially with statistics for 2011 showing that there are 60,394,259 people living in the UK.

Curries are made from a mixture of spices and powders.  Typically curries contain Indian spice mix Garam Masala along with Ginger, Chilli, Cumin, Coriander, Turmeric and sometimes Onion and Garlic depending on the type of dish that is being prepared.  Curry powder itself isn’t just a single spice but more so a blend of various spices mixed together to create what is curry powder.

Most of associate curries to be full of hot and spicy peppers the original curry dish didn’t have any peppers in it since chilli peppers were not native to India.  It was only when Christopher Columbus brought chilli seeds back from the new world and they were then traded to India for the people of India to add these to the curries we love to eat today.

These days’ curries can be bought from supermarkets, restaurants, takeaways and online food ordering websites such as www.myhungrybelly.com which allows its customers to choose from many different restaurantsand takeaways and order a variety of dishes that can be ordered online from the comfort of your home and delivered to your door.

Juicy Facts about Fast Food...

Random however rather interesting facts about Fast Food.
·         In America every month, approximately nine out of 10 American children visit a McDonald's restaurant.  This figure is increasing on a daily basis!
·         During the early 1900s, the hamburger was thought to be polluted, unsafe to eat, and food for the poor. Street carts, not restaurants, typically served them.  Look how far we have come now, we literally have a takeaway, restaurant or fast food outlet at the end of every street.
·         Proportionally, hash browns have more fat and calories than a cheeseburger or Big Mac.
These days not only can you find takeaways and restaurants spotted at the end of each street within the UK but you can also order food online too. Local food has its advantages over globally produced fast food chains such as MacDonald’s, Burger King & KFC. Takeaway food from MyHungryBelly.com is locally produced; therefore the food is a lot fresher opposed to non-local and processed food that you get from larger food chains.
So it is obvious what the better option is. Not forgetting that you can also order food online with MyHungryBelly.com and we deliver straight to your door!
